Basic needs

After several meetings and consultations with the youth organizations of Lagos Island and other stakeholders especially civil society organisations under the “Lagos Island Connect” which include: Founder, Nigeria Network of NGOs (Convener), Tunde Ekperede Foundation, Charles Development Foundation, Women’s Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON), Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (LASG) and New Nigeria Foundation (NNF), we found out that a very important need of the youth is the deficit in capacity for job opportunities and deterioration in the inculcation of social values and norms of the society. These have been identified as some of the reasons why youth members veer towards illegal and non-productive ways of life.

PROPOSED APPROACH

Baseline of how and why Youth on Lagos Island are in the current situation and their attitudes towards the proposed interventions (to arrive at the prevailing social norms and confirmation of opportunities for changing them)

The intervention would be to attempt to change the social norms and the following approaches may be included but the messaging would come from the results of the baseline study which would have captured a representative view of Lagos Island Youth.

Proposed projects

To provide information, insight and opportunities so young people in Lagos Island can better define their future, aspire and improve their chances of becoming successful & make impact in return.

These programs would complement and strengthen existing initiatives established by Lagos State.
