“Lagos Island Connect (LIC) in collaboration with Sustainable Development Goals and Investment (SDGis), Lagos Island Chapter is championing the idea of bringing prosperity to every neighborhood within Lagos Island”. This was said by Ms. Yemisi Ransome- Kuti, Co-founder Lagos Island Connect (LIC) at the First Lagos Island Economic Summit held recently at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island themed: “Sustainable Youth Engagement and Development”.

“The 2km Rule is an initiative aimed at promoting the purchase of goods and services and recruitment within 2km radius of any business enterprise operating within Lagos Island, to promote the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within Lagos Island, as a pilot, and then subsequently throughout Lagos State. The idea is that people will recruit staff, purchase goods and services from within Lagos Island first, before searching outside the locality.

This was said by Ms. Yemisi Ransome- Kuti, Co-founder Lagos Island Connect (LIC) at the First Lagos Island Economic Summit held recently at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island themed: “Sustainable Youth Engagement and Development”.
According to Ms. Yemisi, Lagos Island Connect in Partnership with the Lagos State Office of the Sustainable Development Goals and Investment (OSDGi) has developed and will be unveiling its first in class “2-Kilometer Rule”.
According to Ms. Yemisi, “The model will encourage business entities within a 2-kilometer radius of Lagos Island to hire locally and enable people to patronize businesses, especially youth-owned businesses in the area.
Ms. Yemisi concluded that in Nigeria a lot of economic focus is on the Federal Government’s activities, with people not paying attention to activities at the local and community levels, activities that can have a profound effect on national development and sustainability.
We seek to promote Local Government Economic Summits to engage and showcase all businesses, social enterprise and grassroots government initiatives, including youth businesses within the local council, and to facilitate ways that it would fit into an agenda like the Nigerian Economic Summit, the Ehingbeti Summit, the proposed ‘Made-in-Lagos’ Business Concept, the Lagos State Better Business Bureau (LSBBB) by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Cooperatives and other economic programs within the state.
Mrs. Solape Hammond, Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, explained that the summit was part of a strategy to effectively and extensively leverage human capital resources as a catalyst for economic growth and development in the state.
She added that the forum will create a platform to discuss key issues such as Policy recommendations, quick wins, and priority initiatives that will set an agenda for new models for deeper youths engagement and sustainable economies.
